ILOILO CITY, Philippines, 11 October 2018 – The Philippine Energy Efficiency Alliance (PE2) provided energy efficiency (EE) expertise in a day-long training seminar held earlier today in this city for hotel and exhibition market players under a Department of Tourism (DOT) program implemented by the Philippine Center for Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development, Inc. (PCEPSDI).

Seminar resource persons of the Alliance included trustees Alexander Ablaza, Raymond A. Marquez and Bienvenido C. Gonzales. The PCEPSDI team was led by its project officer, Kiko E. Velhagen.

PE2 presented energy efficiency modules relating to energy efficiency opportunities in the tourism and meetings, incentives, conferences and events (MICE) sectors, energy efficiency project case studies, energy efficiency project implementation, and energy efficiency policy and financing options. The initial seminar held in Iloilo City will be followed by a second seminar for hotel and MICE trainees in Metro Manila in mid-October 2018.

The EE training seminars being planned are under a broader 4-year UNEP-assisted capacity building program, “Transforming Tourism Value Chains in Developing Countries And Small Island Developing States (SIDS) to Accelerate More Resource Efficient, Low Carbon Development.” The program is a collaboration among the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB), the International Climate Initiative (IKI) Programme and the DOT, as its country partner and implementing agency.
