Issuance of energy conservation law urged

The Philippine Energy Efficiency Alliance (PE2) has called on the government to immediately sign into law the energy efficiency and conservation bill, saying every month of delay deprives the country of an estimated savings of P37.8 trillion through 2040.

PE2 president Alexander Ablaza said in a statement the Congress’ bicameral conference committee approved the bill in January, and is being transmitted to the Office of the President.

P37.8-trillion energy savings eyed in efficiency law

An energy-efficiency measure must be signed within the first quarter of the year if the country wants to realize P37.8 trillion in energy savings until 2040.

The Philippine Energy Efficiency Alliance (PE2) on Thursday stressed the importance of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act, which is in the process of transmittal to President Duterte for approval.

PE2 President Alexander Ablaza said delays in the passage of the bill push back the effects of mandatory EE&C implementation, specifically dampening the rise in energy prices.

Delayed energy efficiency law seen reducing projected savings benefits

The delay in the passage of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act (EE&C) is depriving the economy of the immediate benefits of the P37.8 trillion estimated savings from curbing energy use through 2040, the Philippine Energy Efficiency Alliance (PE2) said.

PE2, a non-stock, non-profit organization of energy efficiency market stakeholders, said in a statement on Thursday that the proposed law could also soften the impact of rising energy prices.
