PE2 gives EE briefing to PH ambassador to Denmark

COPENHAGEN, DENMARK, 13 June 2022 – Philippine Energy Efficiency Alliance (PE2) president Alexander Ablaza visited Philippine Ambassador to Denmark Leo M. Herrera-Lim in the embassy here earlier today to brief the country’s diplomat on the trade and investment opportunities in the Philippines arising from the passage of Republic Act 11285, or the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act.

Ablaza said, “The new EE&C Act opens the floodgates to a robust market demand for energy efficiency technologies, solutions, services and capital, primarily because the relatively low energy consumption thresholds that define designated establishments in the commercial, industrial and transport sectors embrace over 33,000 end-users which include not only the large corporations, but permeate down to MSMEs which consume over 500,000 kWh/year in fuel and electricity. The demand is also catalyzed by the removal of foreign ownership restrictions and the access to tax-based fiscal incentives for energy efficiency projects.”

The PE2 president said that during the 7th Annual Global Conference on Energy Efficiency held in Sønderborg in the previous week, Denmark saw itself as the energy efficiency capital of the world. He even was proud to report that Danfoss is an active regular member of PE2, and that the global company welcomed the international attendees of the conference to the small city of Sønderborg, which has been home to its global headquarters.”

Ablaza continued, “Denmark has a lot of to offer in technologies, services, expertise and even investments in the area of energy efficiency, and perhaps the Philippine Embassy in Denmark can play a catalytic role in attracting Danish energy efficiency businesses to support the growth of the Philippine energy efficiency market. We need to remind ourselves that a huge portion of the Philippines’ Nationally Determined Contributions under the Paris climate agreement can be delivered with climate funding from large emitters specifically for climate mitigation activities targeted at energy efficiency.”

PE2 also informed Amb. Herrera-Lim that the Alliance was supporting the Royal Danish Embassy Manila in welcoming the Danish Energy Delegation to Manila from 6-8 September 2022. Ablaza hoped that all organizing entities, with the support of the Philippine government and PE2, could succeed in attracting enough Danish EE companies to balance the RE companies expected to enlist for the delegation.
