PE2 supports ECCP for Energy Smart Forum 2023

MAKATI CITY, 31 August 2023 – The Philippine Energy Efficiency Alliance (PE2) maintained its advocacy partnership with the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP) for the 2023 edition of the Energy Smart Forum, which was successfully held today at the Dusit Thani Hotel in this city.

With the theme “Gearing up for the Future: An Inclusive Transition to Clean Energy,” the forum covered the topics of the country’s renewable energy landscape, the energy efficiency sector and emerging energy technologies, and the imperative to advance a consumer-centric energy market. The forum was opened with keynote messages of Paulo Duarte, ECCP President, Christoph Wagner, Head of Cooperation of the Delegation of the European Union to the Philippines and Sec. Raphael Lotilla of the Department of Energy (DOE).

Atty. Jose Layug Jr. and Ruth Yu-Owen, both co-chairs of the ECCP Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Committee, served as moderators of the three panel discussions. Owen is also Vice President of Internal Affairs of PE2.

DOE Asec. Mylene Capongcol, BOI Executive Director of the Industry Development Group Ma. Corazon Dichosa, Aboitiz Power Chief Renewable Energy Officer James Villaroman, HSBC Philippines Director for Multinational and International Subsidiaries Banking Jonathan Webster, DOE Solar and Wind Energy Management Division Chief Ferdinand Binondo, and Institute of Corporate Directors Trustee Pedro Maniego Jr. contributed to the rich exchange of views on the barriers and future of renewables in the country.

PE2 president Alexander Ablaza, DOE Energy Utilization Management Bureau Director Patrick Aquino, and De La Salle University Mechanical Engineering Associate Professor Dr. Neil Stephen Lopez brought opinions and updates from the private, government and academic sectors, respectively, during a lively discussion on energy efficiency and emerging technologies.

During the session on advancing a consumer-centric approach in the energy sector, special messages were delivered by Philippine Senate Energy Committee Vice Chair Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian and Climate Change Commission PH Commissioner Albert Dela Cruz. Energy Regulatory Commission Renewable Energy Division Chief Jayson Corpuz, Ateneo de Manila University Associate Professor Dr. Majah-Leah Ravago and PE2’s Ablaza swapped ideas on how to draw the energy sector closer to the needs of the energy end-users.

PE2 VP for External Affairs, Theresa Acedillo- Lapuz, Corporate Secretary Richard Henrick Beltran, VP for Technical Affairs Raymond Marquez, Trustee Rodolfo Peñalosa, Technical Committee member Andrew Yan and Secretariat Manager Hazel Planco came in full support of the forum.

The event was organized by ECCP in partnership with DOE, Advantage Austria, Embassy of the Kingdom of Belgium, Royal Danish Embassy Manila, Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, and Embassy of Sweden in Manila and with the support of Aboitiz Power and HSBC Philippines as co-presenters and PE2 as advocacy partner.
